Washington County Archives: What We Have & What We Do

Learn about the rich history preserved in Tennessee’s oldest county, Washington County. This program highlights the county’s remarkable archival holdings, which have remained largely intact since the early 1770s—when the area was known as the Watauga Settlement. Attendees will hear about some of the most fascinating historical documents in the collection, along with insight into the vital work archivists do to preserve and share these records for future generations.

About the Speaker

Born and raised in Sullivan County, Donna has been active in genealogy and historical research for many years. She is a founding member of the Cemetery Survey Team of Northeast Tennessee and has served in several capacities for various historical and genealogical organizations in both Washington and Sullivan counties. In 2016. she received certification as a Certified Archives Manager from the state of Tennessee. Donna was hired in 2016, as an archival assistant, and was promoted to head archivist in 2025.
