Less than 2,000 feet from the entrance to the East Tennessee History Center, a historic event took place on the frontier.
THE SIGNING OF THE TREATY OF HOLSTON.
By the time American and Cherokee negotiators met at the end of June 1791, both nations had spent decades trying to find a way to coexist.
Lines Were Drawn explores that time. A time before there was a city named Knoxville (1791) or a state named Tennessee (1796). A time of war and diplomacy, of broken promises and genuine attempts at fresh starts.
The exhibition also asks, “SO WHAT?” Why does a document that was signed 235 years ago still matter?
Free Museum admission for the duration of Lines Were Drawn, in commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States, is made possible through the generosity of Marvin House.
