Burial Places of East Tennessee Civil War Soldiers

In Death Not Divided: Burial Places of East Tennessee Civil War Soldiers is a project to locate and identify burial sites of East Tennessee Civil War Soldiers, Union and Confederate

Union or Confederate, home-grown or from a distant state, these soldiers, individually and collectively, comprise the East Tennessee Civil War story.

Burial Places of East Tennessee Civil War Soldiers is a project of the East Tennessee Historical Society to compile a list of burial places and survey the condition of tombstones for East Tennesseans who fought in the war, as well as soldiers from other states buried here. The list will constitute an online database for research and remembrance.

Who’s included:

  • Union and Confederate soldiers
  • Served from and buried in East Tennessee
  • Served from East Tennessee but buried elsewhere (includes those who died in hospital, prison, or battle)
  • Any Civil War veteran from any state buried in East Tennessee

This Civil War Sesquicentennial legacy project is funded in part by a generous grant from the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area.
