Don’t Let Me Cross Over: Keepin’ It Country with Carl Butler and Pearl

24 April 2024

The life and times of country music stars Carl and Pearl Butler is told using their own personal archive, including rare photographs, lost audio recordings, and never-before-seen 8mm home movies discovered in storage trunks in the Butler Family’s possession. In these rare archives, look out for early film appearances by Johnny Cash, Stringbean, the Webster Brothers, and 10-year-old Dolly Parton. Bradley Reeves, co-author of the new Butler biography Honky Tonkitis, takes you on a fascinating journey from humble beginnings in Knoxville’s Happy Holler to success with hit singles and Grand Ole Opry stardom.

About the presenter:

Bradley Reeves, a 2018 Grammy nominee, is an independent researcher, archivist, author, and collector of classic cinema and vintage 78 rpm records. He is the co-founder of the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound.
